Puppy Foundations
Stop Just Surviving. Start Raising the Puppy You Actually Dreamed About.
Right now, life with your puppy might look like this:
Biting that turns your arms into chew toys
Bathroom “surprises” right after you come inside
Middle-of-the-night zoomies followed by 5am wake-up calls
Kids getting chased down by a fur-clad velociraptor
You didn’t get a puppy to spend your days exhausted and frustrated.
You got a puppy because you wanted a calm companion to take on trail walks, patio hangs, and family adventures. A pup who can snooze beside your desk while you work, not one you’re constantly mediating like a WWE referee.
Here’s the truth: well-behaved dogs aren’t born. They’re built.
And you don’t need hours a day, harsh corrections, or rigid drills to do it.
And Mission Paws Puppy Foundations is the blueprint to build yours, with the confidence, focus, and calmness that make real life together easy.
Most puppy classes focus on cues.
Puppy Foundations focuses on the skills that make daily life easier. Calmness, focus, confidence, and communication, so your puppy is capable of performing those cues in the real-life situations.
How We Build It
Instead of drilling “sit, stay, down,” we build the skills that make puppy life actually easier:
1. Enjoyable Walks & Off-Leash Freedom with Focus
Loose leash foundations — so you don’t dread going outside or lose your shoulder
Come-when-called building blocks — because nothing feels better than letting your dog explore off-leash without worrying you’ll lose them
2. Calm as a “go-to” at Home & Out in the World
Settle anywhere — at home, on patios, during camping or road trips
Smart socialization — to prevent reactivity, not create it
Clear communication — so you both understand each other
3. Confidence for a Lifetime
Emotional regulation — so your puppy can think even when excited or nervous
Problem-solving skills — to handle new experiences without panic
How to navigate and ease everyday puppy struggles— biting, crate training, potty training, jumping, and living peacefully with kids, cats, or other dogs

Meet Your Trainer
Dear Dog Lover,
Samaya here (rhymes with “papaya”).
If you’ve recently brought home a puppy and are wondering how something so cute can also be this unhinged, I get it.
The biting, the zoomies, the pulling, the “I swear they know this… why aren’t they doing it?” moments.
It’s not that your puppy is stubborn or untrainable.
They just haven’t learned how to exist in the world yet.
And most puppy training?
It focuses on getting behaviours in perfect conditions, not helping your puppy stay calm, think clearly, and make good decisions when life gets exciting.
That’s where I come in.
I help puppy owners build calm, confident dogs by training the brain first — so skills like loose leash walking, come-when-called, and household calmness actually hold up outside your living room or in the face of unpredictable distractions.
No harsh corrections. No overwhelming routines.
Just simple, science-backed training that fits into your real life, and helps your puppy learn how to settle on their own, not just “sit” when told.
You didn’t get a puppy to feel constantly overwhelmed, managing a fur-clad velociraptor.
You got a dog to enjoy.
Let’s build that dog.

Yes.
This class is designed specifically with young puppies in mind, including those who have not yet completed their full vaccination schedule. The training space is kept clean, and puppies are not participating in direct dog-to-dog play or interaction, making the risk extremely low.
It's also worth noting that the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends that puppies begin attending well-run puppy socialization classes before they are fully vaccinated. Missing out on these critical learning experiences can pose a greater long-term risk to a puppy's behaviour and development than the carefully managed risk of attending class.
Early positive experiences help puppies learn how to navigate the world with confidence, optimism, and resilience.

No.
While puppy play sessions can look fun, not all play is productive learning. In many puppy classes, a small number of confident puppies do most of the playing while the more sensitive puppies spend their time feeling overwhelmed, hiding, or simply surviving the experience.
Our goal is not to create puppies that are obsessed with other dogs. Our goal is to create puppies that can calmly coexist with other dogs while still listening to their humans.
Instead of free-for-all play sessions, we focus on the life skills that matter most: disengagement, focus, calmness, recall, loose leash walking, emotional regulation, confidence, and household manners.
Puppies still gain valuable experience being around other puppies, but they learn that the presence of another dog does not automatically mean access to that dog. This skill becomes incredibly valuable later in life when you're passing dogs on walks, enjoying patios, hiking trails, or visiting family and friends.

While this class is designed for puppies, the skills we teach are valuable for dogs of any age. Loose leash walking, recall, calmness in the home, settling around distractions, optimism, confidence, and emotional regulation are not puppy-only skills. If your adolescent or adult dog struggles with pulling on leash, coming when called, settling in the home, or staying connected to you around distractions, they can benefit greatly from this class.
The concepts we teach remain the same, but the games and presentation of the learning are adapted to the dogs in the class. Whether your dog is 4 months old or 4 years old, we can adjust the exercises to meet them where they are while still helping them build the skills needed for everyday life.
If you're unsure whether your dog is a good fit, reach out and I'd be happy to help you decide.

This may surprise you, but our primary focus is not teaching commands.
While your puppy will learn practical skills and games throughout the course, our goal is to build the foundations that make real-life success possible.
Rather than focusing on perfect sits and downs in a classroom, we focus on helping your puppy develop the skills needed to:
Walk politely on a loose leash
Come when called, even when something interesting is happening
Relax while you work from home or watch Netflix
Feel confident spending time home alone
Greet people appropriately
Navigate new environments with confidence
Settle calmly at patios, family gatherings, and public spaces
Filter distractions and make good decisions in the real world
Think of it like building the operating system rather than downloading individual apps.
When a dog learns skills like optimism, disengagement, emotional regulation, confidence, and focus, learning specific cues becomes much easier. More importantly, those skills are what allow your dog to actually listen when life gets exciting, distracting, or overwhelming.
Anyone can teach a dog to sit in the kitchen. Our goal is to help you raise a dog that can thrive in everyday life.
All Mission Paws Dog School training uses Positive Reinforcement - food/treats, play, toys, praise - to reward and encourage repeat behaviour. When done correctly this is a safe, kind, and extremely effective method to training. This is not about bribes or coercion. We are using the science of animal learning and neuroplasticity to reshape your dog's brain to choose the wanted outcome, meaning you have a dog who can respond to cues AND choose the desired behaviours on their own without being asked.
